THE POWER OF TURNING EXERCISE INTO A CHOICE

Does it seem as if the only purpose given for exercise is weight loss?

The same message being delivered over & over, in different formats using different words.

It can be discouraging to find your “why” when the emphasis has always focused on weight loss, unrealistic expectations, and often extremes.

The good news is that things have changed!

GAINS

Fitness is now more well-rounded, an encouraging, start where you are & go for the gains vibe.

And those gains? Physical and emotional health.

DON’T “WEIGH” YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS

With exercise, measure your achievements by how you feel, not by what you see on the scale.

IT’S OK TO BE MESSY

Aiming for perfection is one of the biggest barriers to starting or completing something. Allow of room for mistakes.

Remember: Progress over perfection.

So you messed up? Hey, no worries, as long as you don’t quit.

Harvey Mackay wrote in the Business Journal (https://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/how-to/growth-strategies/2020/02/we-need-to-learn-how-to-move-on-from-mistakes.html), ‘We all make mistakes, and anyone who claims not to is making a big mistake in failing to recognize human flaws. Confucius said, “A man who has made a mistake and doesn’t correct it is making another mistake.” Mackay’s message: Don’t let a misstep make you fall flat on your face.

START WHERE YOU ARE

Avoid thoughts of “I’m not athletic” or “It’s too difficult”, clear your mind and eliminate expectations.

Start right where you are. Focus on what you can do well and go from there, stay consistent. In time, you will amaze yourself!

IT’S NOT PUNISHMENT, IT’S A CHOICE

Exercise is not a form of punishment, it is not something that should be forced or thought of as a chore, needed in order to lose weight to look better.

Exercising to get stronger, beat stress, sleep better? According to Thea Gallagher, Psy.D. and clinical director at Penn Medicine, (https://www.byrdie.com/health-benefits-of-exercise-4694401) you may not necessarily exercise more, but you will feel happier about it. “When you’re not exercising for weight loss, it feels like less of a chore, and more of a choice,”

BE EMBODIED

Fitness is for everyone, at all levels, all interests.

Dig deep. For YOU. Not for a scale.

Keep moving, joyfully.

Most of all, find YOUR fit. Find your WHY.
